Read-Only Properties in Ideate BIMLink

Ideate BIMLink treats some Revit properties as read only. Any attempt to change the values will result in a warning message. Lear more: Import Issues with BIMLink.

Read-only properties are displayed as disabled in the Link Preview of the Link Properties dialog, Link Revit Properties dialog in BIMlink, and Revit Import dialog in BIMLink

Properties displayed with a cross-hatch pattern are not applicable. For example, the Sheet: Name property for a View when the view has not yet been placed on a Sheet would not be applicable.

Revit Properties Considered Read-Only by Ideate BIMLink

Coordinate Values

Except when explicitly designed to be editable, coordinate values are read-only. Un-hosted families, such as equipment and furniture, or title blocks and viewports can be moved by editing the coordinate values. Most other elements are constrained by walls, ceiling, dimensions, groups etc., and therefore can’t have their coordinate values modified.

Type Properties in an Instance Link

Type properties included in an instance are read-only. Typically, this is seen in an Instance link. You can easily convert an Instance link to a Type link with the Convert Revit Links in BIMLink function. Read this for information on a related topic: Editing Revit Instance vs. Type Links with Ideate BIMLink

  • Example: The Type Name property in a Door Instance link is read-only. Conversely, the Type Name in a Door Type link is not read-only.

Properties from Related Categories

Any property from a related category is read-only.

  • Example: The Level: Elevation property is read-only if included in a Door Instance link.

Element IDs

A property whose value is an element id is considered read-only.

  • Example: The Element Id property on every element is read-only.

Revit Calculated Values

Some properties are derived values calculated by Revit and are made read-only by Revit.

  • Example: The Wall Instance property Area is calculated from the wall geometry and is made read-only by Revit.

Schedule Key Values

Within an instance-based link, any instance property defined by a key schedule is read-only. These values can only be edited with a link based on the associated key schedule. Learn more:
