We are pleased to announce the release of Ideate Automation for Revit, a scripting tool for use with Ideate Software tools. It is designed to significantly reduce costs by letting repetitive, time-intensive BIM tasks run silently in the background, freeing designers and engineers for higher-level, more valuable work. It is an important solution for architecture, engineering, and construction businesses that use Autodesk Revit software for large or complex building information modeling projects.

“Automating repetitive tasks is one of the surest and most straightforward ways to improve the bottom line,” said Glynnis Patterson, Director of Software Development, Ideate Software. “Not only does Ideate Automation allow staff to spend more time on meaningful work, it also ensures that task outcomes are highly predictable and standardized.”

Michael Hartley, Technical BIM Manager at Ramboll said, “We were waiting with anticipation for the release of Ideate Automation and we have not been disappointed by its potential. We have started implementing Ideate Automation and the tool is already influencing our workflows. Ideate Automation is allowing us to perform previously fragmented automation tasks and increase our efficiency whilst offering us new possibilities for data collection. This is one tool we have been missing and finally helps connect the dots!”

Examples of tasks to automate with Ideate Automation include:

  • Exporting key Revit model health data
  • Creating document issue records
  • Preparing COBie data drops
  • Generating quantity take-off data
  • Generating regular, automated PDF exports
  • Delivering CSV reports on key Revit family and project metrics

We are pleased to share a client success story about Aspin Group, published by our partner in the UK, Excitech. Below are highlights; read the full story here.

Project Overview

The project, initiated by Hampshire County Council, concerned the Redbridge Causeway. It’s made up of two 3-span bridges, one 1-span bridge, and a 20-span viaduct.

Challenge

The main contractor asked Aspin to undertake a structural inspection of the bridge and deliver a BIM model that could be used in the future by the Council’s asset management team. It needed to include links to critical data such as records ownership, rights and restrictions, surveys, work that had been carried out, operational performance information, and condition information.

Solution

Aspin asked Excitech to recommend the best solution, and they recommended Ideate BIMLink. Ideate BIMLink offers a quick and easy solution for importing data into a Revit project, such as updating hyperlink information on specific elements. With Ideate BIMLink, Apsin incorporated the records and links into the model, and it delivered a relatively complex requirement in an efficient and user-friendly way.

San Francisco, CA, January 13, 2021 – Ideate Software, an Autodesk® AEC Industry Partner and Autodesk® Authorized Developer, is pleased to announce its collaboration with DIALOG, a Canadian firm that provides architecture, electrical engineering, interior design, landscape architecture, mechanical engineering, planning and urban design, and structural engineering services.

To help their multi-disciplinary teams leverage their diverse perspectives to tackle complex challenges together, DIALOG uses top technology tools, including five Revit applications developed by Ideate Software.

When talking about Ideate Software products, Ross Salikhov, Technologist, Mechanical Engineering, DIALOG, said, “I mainly use Ideate BIMLink and Ideate Explorer, and both are a must for me as a serious Revit user.” He continued:

  • “Ideate BIMLink is irreplaceable for finding/reviewing/revising parameters. It has saved me days if not weeks of work.”
  • “I use Ideate Explorer as a more sophisticated Revit filter, because the native Revit filter is very limited.”

“Like DIALOG, many of our customers are realizing that subscribing to all our products puts solutions to common Revit challenges at their fingertips,” said Glynnis Patterson. “Streamlining workflows, even those performed only occasionally, means more time available for more valuable and more interesting activities.”

You may have heard that Autodesk® Revit®  2019 includes the addition of the variable “or” to view filters. This gives users greater control over view graphics by enabling them to create view filters with multiple rules and nested sets with AND and OR conditions. This feature was the most requested change suggested to Autodesk!

If you’ve always wanted to use this same filtering but with schedules, you should check out Ideate BIMLink, which has offered sophisticated filtering since 2014.

The ability to use “or” for filters is essential to Ideate BIMLink’s support of quality control, quantity takeoff, and other similar processes when casting a broader data ‘net’ is useful. In the image below, for example, unchecking the “Elements Must Pass All Filters” lets Ideate BIMLink look for Design Option content that is either in the Main Model or in the Primary.
