Ideate Software Installer is a one-click tool that deploys Ideate Software products throughout an organization. The package includes all MSI files for the most recent versions of all our desktop solutions. Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I use Ideate Software Installer?
A. Run “Ideate Software Installer.exe” to install all products and versions contained in the “IdeateInstallers” folder
Q. How can I control which products or versions get installed?
A. Open the “IdeateInstallers” folder and remove the MSI for any product or version you don’t want to install or use the command line switches (see below).
Q. How do I tell Ideate Software Installer which license I want to use?
A. Enter your @servername or your license code in the license.txt file provided with the installer package. NOTE: Only one code or servername can be used. If you want no changes to the existing licenses on the end user machines, keep the file blank or remove it. As an alternative, you can place a pre-configured license.config file into the same folder as the Installer.exe, and it will take precedence over the contents of license.txt.
Q. How do I use this to deploy Ideate Software to all my users?
A. Use your favorite network admin tool that supports EXEs, such as SCCM, to run the installer.
Q. Does it support command line switches?
A. You can use the following switches: /SILENT; /SKIP_[product code]; /SKIP_[year] Get more info.
Q. Can I keep the installer on a network share and let the users run it?
A. You can pre-configure products, versions, and licensing and then place the “Ideate Software Installer” folder on a network share or a cloud shared folder. Give users read-only access to prevent them from altering the package for others.
Q. What if I already have the licensing set up and don’t want to change anything?
A. If there isn’t a license.txt or license.config file in the Ideate Software Installer folder, the existing license configuration will not be affected. All existing products should continue to work, including the latest version, if the existing license is valid for the newly installed versions as well. Any products that were not previously licensed will need to be activated the usual way in Revit.
Q. How do I set the correct license codes if I have a mix of Ideate Software solutions with different quantities?
A. Ideate Software Installer is optimized to work with standard bundles that contain the same number of licenses for all products and use only a single license code. Customers with more than one license code can choose from these options:
1:
- Create copies of the Installer package, making sure that each copy only contains one product MSIs in the IdeateInstallers folder with a correct license.txt file.
- Create a batch file that will call them one after another, so the actual install by the end user can still be done in a single step. Or you can add the packages to your usual deployment process.
2:
- Run Ideate Software Installer without any license configuration (no license.txt)
- Follow the steps for setting up AutoActivation here
3:
- Upgrade to a standard Bundle product. Contact your sales account manager or sales to discuss the options.
Q. What if I am still using a legacy version (2017 or older)?
A. Installed legacy versions won’t be affected. Legacy version MSIs can be downloaded from the software Archive page. IMPORTANT NOTE: Legacy versions may need to be separately activated inside Revit.
Command Line Arguments
The following switches have been implemented to help you customize Ideate Software deployments. The switches can be combined and used multiple times to achieve the desired combination of products:
/SILENT — run without the command line window
/ActiveOnly — installs Ideate Software for only the Revit versions already on the PC
/SKIP_[product code] — skips all versions of a product. Use a separate /SKIP for each product you want to skip.
/SKIP_IBL — Ideate BIMLink
/SKIP_IEX — Ideate Explorer
/SKIP_ISB — Ideate Sticky
/SKIP_IAP — IdeateApps (Note: this refers to a specific product ‘IdeateApps’)
/SKIP_STL — Ideate Style Manager
/SKIP_[year] — skips the listed product year for ALL installed products. Use a separate /SKIP for each version you want to skip.
/SKIP_2018
…
/SKIP_2021
/UNINSTALL_[YEAR] — uninstall all Ideate Software products of the specified year version. NOTE: If an /UNINSTALL command is run, the installer will no longer install the MSI’s in the same run!
/UNINSTALL_2020
Examples:
“...path to .exe” /SILENT /SKIP_2018 — silently install all products, versions 2019-2021
“...path to .exe” /SILENT /SKIP_STL /SKIP_2018 /SKIP_2019 — silently install all products except Ideate Style Manager, skips versions 2018 and 2019
What is a Named User license?
A Named User license is assigned to one specific person rather than shared across a network. For a step-by-step walkthrough, see the Graitec Licensing Help Center - Named User.
Are Ideate Suites replacing Ideate Software Bundles?
Yes. Going forward, Ideate Suites replace Ideate Software Bundles.
What's the difference between the Ideate Software Bundle and the Ideate Suite?
Both include the same five tools: IdeateApps, Ideate BIMLink, Ideate Explorer, Ideate Sticky and Ideate StyleManager.
- Bundle: Each tool is licensed separately, so different people can work in different tools at once. For example, with one Bundle, five people could each use a different tool at the same time.
- Suite: One license covers all five tools for one person at a time. That person can move freely between every tool. While they're using the Suite, it isn't available to anyone else on that license until they finish.
A Named User Suite is assigned to one specific person. A single Network Cloud Floating Suite can be shared across your team, one person at a time.
Will my team need more licenses?
If several people on your team use different Ideate tools at the same time, you may need more than one Suite license. Contact us and we'll review your team's usage and help you choose the right setup.
Can I still buy an Ideate Software Bundle?
No. Bundles are no longer available for purchase. New purchases are offered as follows:
- Ideate Suite: Named User or Network Cloud Floating
- Enterprise Suite: Network Cloud Floating
- Active Host: Network Cloud Floating
- Automation: Network Cloud Floating
- Individual products: Named User or Network Cloud Floating (IdeateApps, Ideate BIMLink, Ideate Explorer, Ideate Sticky, and Ideate StyleManager)
Can I still buy IdeateApps, BIMLink, Explorer, Sticky, or StyleManager individually?
Yes. Individual products are available as Named User or Cloud Floating licenses until the new product lineup launches with the next major release, expected mid-2027.
Will floating (network) licenses still be available?
Yes. FlexLM remains available for organizations with security requirements, such as environments without internet access. FlexLM is not available through the online store, so please contact your account manager to purchase.
My organization has strict security requirements or no internet access. Can I still get a FlexLM license?

I'm an existing customer. What happens to my current license/s?
Your existing Ideate Software subscription is moving to our new licensing system at no cost. Your license quantities and expiration dates stay the same.
- Standalone licenses become Named User licenses. Set up your Named Users in the Graitec Advantage Portal.
- Cloud Floating (network) licenses become Network Cloud Floating Suite licenses. Deploy the latest release as you have in the past, using the new license code in your migration email.
- Each Ideate Software Bundle becomes an Ideate Suite.
To keep using Ideate, update to the latest release and activate your new license by March 31, 2027. Older Ideate licenses will stop working in Q2 2027.

Where do I manage my licenses?
In the Graitec Advantage Portal. Based on customer requests, starting with the latest Ideate release, license management and license usage information are handled in Graitec Advantage, outside of Revit. We recommend bookmarking the portal.
- Named User licenses: Assign licenses to people on your team in Graitec Advantage.
- Cloud Floating Suite licenses: Deploy the latest release with your new license code as you have in the past, then manage licenses in Graitec Advantage.
