As an architectural project progresses, it is quite typical go through a series of design changes. One example of a design revision might be modifications to a plan layout which would require building elements, such as rooms, to be either added or deleted from the Revit model. Because of these types of revisions, a renumbering of this category of elements is then required for documentation purposes. This task can become very time-consuming – especially if it needs to be done several times throughout the life of a Revit project. With the Ideate ReNumber tool, the process of renumbering rooms in Revit can now be expedited!

Renumbering rooms in Revit

The Ideate ReNumber tool can be found in the Ideate Software ribbon on the Revit User Interface, along with other IdeateApps and Ideate Software tools.

Ideate Software Ribbon

When renumbering rooms in our project, we can create renumbering rules within the Ideate ReNumber dialog.

ReNumber Dialog Box

There are also several options for numbering sequence methods that we can choose from. For more information on numbering methods, read more on our Ideate Software support page.

Manage renumbering

After setting up the rule and numbering method, selecting the ‘start renumbering’ button at the bottom of the dialog, brings up a Preview dialog. This dialog shows information on the rooms being renumbered. It lists the element ID of the room, the Room Name, as well as the original and new value of the room number. Once the Preview dialog has been reviewed, the next step is to accept changes.

Have you ever received the Revit warning that “none of the created elements are visible in the current view”? What could be the cause? There are dozens of reasons why an object doesn’t display within a Revit view. Ideate XRay checks over 50 reasons why an element may be hidden within a specific view, allowing you to understand or fix the issue. One of the top questions a BIM Manager receives from the Revit team is “why doesn’t something display in this view?”

Ideate XRay helps the whole Revit team understand and fix visibility issues, therefore allowing the BIM Manager to focus and concentrate on higher level issues, thus increasing efficiency and productivity for the Revit project, and the entire Revit team.

Ideate XRay Results

Ideate XRay is a powerful application that is part of the IdeateApps suite of solutions for Revit. Ideate XRay allows you to understand why Revit elements don’t display within a specific Revit view. Revit allows many sophisticated ways to display or hide elements within the Building Information Model, based on intelligent parameters or properties.

As an example, every element has a category, phase, discipline, or workset that could impact whether that element displays within a selected view. In addition, there are scope boxes, crop regions, and view ranges that may also impact the display of Revit elements. Ideate XRay helps to make sense of why an object doesn’t display in a specific view. Ideate XRay gives ANY Revit user a powerful arsenal of forensic tools to understand why something doesn’t display, along with in-depth information on how to fix the issue.

Ideate SmartDelete is a powerful application that is part of the IdeateApps suite of solutions for Revit. Ideate SmartDelete allows you to reduce liability issues occurring from the Revit model by understanding exactly what you are deleting. When you delete the RVT link or the ceiling elements, are you sure you’re only deleting the selected elements? Done improperly, Revit mode deletion will impact liability and the project schedule. With Ideate SmartDelete you’ll get that second chance to review your deletion set AND, more importantly, you can preview what else will be deleted, before it happens.

Design changes are inevitable throughout the life of a Revit project. And because of this doors, rooms and other building elements may be added or deleted in the process. In turn, we go through a cycle of renumbering these categories of Revit elements, which equates to too much time spent renumbering, when we could be focusing on other tasks at hand.

Now, with Ideate ReNumber you can easily re-number Revit elements by selection, path, or auto-update; create and even save customized renumbering rules.

Ideate ReNumber can be found along with other IdeateApps, and Ideate Software add-ons, in their own Ideate Software ribbon on the Revit User Interface.

Ideate Software Ribbon

Within the Ideate ReNumber dialog, you can create rules to be applied when renumbering doors in your project.

Ideate ReNumber Dialog Box

You also have several options for numbering sequence methods. For additional information on the different numbering methods, please visit this Ideate Software support page.

Ideate ReNumber Dialog Box

After deciding on the rule and numbering method, you can now start renumbering! A Preview dialog will give you information on the doors being renumbered. It shows the Revit element ID of the room, the Door Type, as well as the original and new value of the door number. Once you’ve reviewed the Preview dialog, and everything looks good – you can then accept changes!

If you were to go through multiple design changes throughout a Revit project - and doors are perhaps deleted and/or added to your design in the process – you can continue to use the Ideate ReNumber tool to renumber the doors in your project.

Let’s take a closer look at how this tool can help streamline your design and documentation process when it comes to renumbering doors in Revit  watch this Ideate ReNumber Video.
