Ideate Software Support Levels Up with a Unique Journal Parser

An Interview with Ben Fox

Ideate Software solutions are powerful tools to keep your Revit model healthy, but sometimes users encounter puzzling or complex model behavior they can’t easily unravel. When Ideate Software’s Revit add-ins and in-depth support files don’t provide the answers, our support team can help. As hands-on software developers and experienced Revit users, they bring unique insight to the most complex Revit challenges.

One of the newer tools in the Ideate Software support arsenal is a journal parser, developed by Ideate Software team member Ben Fox. Its script scans the user’s dense Revit journal files, highlighting specific phrases that can point to the root of the user’s issue. These clues include things such as longer than expected add-in run times, conflicts among add-ins, and other messages.

While the journal parser empowers the Ideate Software support team with speed and insight, its value is much broader. The tool highlights new opportunities for innovation, empowering Ideate Software to solve for common challenges faced by people who use Revit everyday.

About Ben Fox

Ben developed the script while working as an intern at Ideate Software and attending the Morris County School of Technology in the Academy for Computer and Information Sciences in New Jersey. His experience also includes developing personal games using Unity and UE5, which taught him about object-oriented design patterns. His internship at Ideate Software was Ben’s first position in the software industry.
