Ideate BIMLink: Editing Existing Revit Sheet and Title Block Data

You can save a lot of time using Ideate BIMLink to create many elements and edit many type and instance parameters in Revit projects. (See recent posts on saving time using Ideate BIMLink to: 1) manage sheets, 2) create and modify rooms, and 3) swap structural framing instances.)

Save Time on Sheet and Title Block Editing

A recurring editing task on all Revit-based projects is sheet and title block editing, which can consist of a variety of tasks, such as:

  • Editing sheet names and numbers, drawn by, checked by, and more
  • Editing custom parameter data, such as turning on/off the architect’s or engineer’s professional seal and custom project status notes
  • Overall QA/QC of sheets and Title Blocks in the drawing set, such as Title Block Family usage and Appears in Sheet List

For small projects, this information may be easy to manage manually; it may take a few minutes to make the changes. But on medium to large-sized projects, editing sheet data could take a very long time. As with any amount of large data editing, it is time consuming and error prone. One major limitation in Revit is that if companies have custom parameters tied to the title block category, they may have to be managed on a one-by-one basis.

Luckily for us, Ideate BIMLink can make short order of these editing tasks by allowing users to export their sheet data to Microsoft Excel where it can be reviewed and edited, and then import the updated data into the Revit model with ease and speed.

It is important to note that while this blog post focuses on editing data found within sheets and title blocks, the process of editing Revit all model data using Ideate BIMLink is essentially the same.
