AI in Revit: What Autodesk Assistant Means for Revit Workflows

AI in Revit is quickly becoming one of the most talked about developments in the AEC industry. With the introduction of Autodesk Assistant in Revit 2027, Autodesk is exploring how artificial intelligence can help users interact with their models using natural language.

The new assistant allows Revit users to ask questions about their model, extract data, and attempt certain actions through prompts. This shift toward AI-powered Revit workflows could make navigating project data faster and more intuitive.

At Ideate Software, we tested Autodesk Assistant to understand how it performs in real-world BIM workflows.

AI assistants can be useful for tasks that involve interpretation, pattern recognition, or quick adjustments inside a model. However, our testing also revealed several practical limitations that Revit teams should consider.

Current limitations include:

• Inconsistent spatial understanding within Revit models
• Non-visual responses that require additional interpretation
• Inability to automate repeatable Revit workflows
• Results that are not always predictable or deterministic

For production environments that require accuracy, repeatable processes, and scalable automation, purpose-built Revit productivity tools remain essential.

Ideate Software tools continue to support reliable Revit workflows by providing:

• Deterministic and repeatable results
• Structured project data management
• Automation that runs beyond the active Revit model
• Tools designed for QA/QC and BIM standards compliance

The future of AI in Revit will likely combine both approaches. AI tools can help surface insights and simplify certain tasks, while deterministic tools ensure data accuracy, automation, and reliable BIM workflows across projects.
