Select Method

Ideate ViewCreator streamlines the batch-creation of new views by making copies of existing views and applying rules to modify both the name and the properties of the new views.  There are four methods that can be used to batch-create new views: Views to Levels, Duplicate ViewsApply Dependents, and Room Views.

Views to Levels

The Views to Levels method within Ideate ViewCreator is designed to replicate one or more plan or schedule view from a specified level, to multiple other levels. This method would most likely be used in the early stages of your project.

Plans to Levels

While Revit supports creating multiple plan views based on selected levels, those new views will not have the advantage of any of the following ViewCreator outcomes:

Schedules to Levels

While Revit 2023+ includes the ability to filter a schedule by view, this method is not as reliable as explicitly filtering by the level property. The benefit of using this method is that the level-based filter (required) in the schedule will be automatically changed as well as the schedule name to match the selected levels.

After you choose this method, the next step is to Select Views to Copy.

Duplicate Views

The Duplicate Views method within Ideate ViewCreator is designed to duplicate multiple plan views, sections or elevations at once, while simultaneously modifying some of the properties. There are many typical examples of why this is useful. Several common examples of where this can be useful are noted below:

Copy to Phase

Create multiple plans for new, existing, or demolition floor plans at once to all selected levels.

Copy to Discipline

Copy (3) HVAC duct plan views to create (3) new fire protection plan views with matching crop box and grids.

After you choose this method, the next step is to Select Views to Copy.

Apply Dependents

The Apply Dependents method within Ideate ViewCreator is designed to replicate the view naming, scope or crop box, and grid settings that exist for one or more dependent views onto a new set of parent views. This method is often used as part of creating ‘sector plans’. After you choose this method, the next step is to Select Views to Copy.

Room Views

The Room Views method within Ideate ViewCreator allows you to generate a variety of view types based on a selection of one or more rooms. This method also includes an option to place the new views on one or more sheets. Learn more about the Room Views method.

Select Views to Copy

After selecting the method of view creation, the next step is to define which views will be used as the source for creating the new views. The selected views will set a baseline for the view properties including the crop box or scope box size, the grid line graphics, and custom view properties. The views that are available to copy are dependent upon the selected method: Views to Levels, Duplicate Views, or Apply Dependents.

Select Views to Copy — Levels Method

The Plans to Levels method of creating new views begins with selecting one or more view on a given level. If you are using this method you will notice at the top of the Select Views dialog, that you have an option to specify the level. After adjusting the level as needed, a list of any independent plan view associated with that level will display. This method supports the duplication of area plans, ceiling plans, floor plans, and structural plans.

Select dependent Revit views based on available parent views with Ideate ViewCreator

After you select the views you wish to copy, the next step is to Select Target Parents.

Select Target Levels

When using the Views to Levels method of creating views, the first step is to select views associated with a specific level. The next step is to specify the level or levels to which you would like to copy the selected plan views. If you select (1) floor Plan and (1) ceiling plan, and the select (3) target levels, the total number of views created will be (2) plans x (3) levels = (6) new views.

After completing this step, the last step is to Preview and Create

Select Target Parent Views

When using the Apply Dependents method of creating views, the first step is to select views associated with a specific parent view. The next step is to specify any existing parent views to which you would like to copy the selected dependent views. If you select (3) dependent views, and the select (4) target parent views, the total number of views created will be (3) dependents x (4) parents = (12) new views.

After completing this step, the last step is to Preview and Create
