Search for Non-Room Bounding Walls

Before generating an energy model in Revit it is advisable to ensure that the Room Bounding property for walls is properly set. Use Ideate Query to review the room bounding and wall function property at the same time to ensure the energy model will be a success:

  1. Start on the Explore tab and set the Display to Entire Project.
  2. Set the Filter to <Model> and then select all Walls.
  3. Next, select the Ideate Query button.
  4. If more than one category is displayed be sure to only select Walls.
  5. Type "bound" into the Search box. Ideate Query will filter the properties and only display those that contain the word "bound".
  6. Select the Instance property called "Room Bounding".
  7. Clear the Search box and the type "function" to find the Wall Type property called Function
  8. All possible values will display on the right-hand side.
  9. Refine your current selection by selecting one or more of the checkboxes, then use the Select button to return to Ideate Explorer.
  10. From within the Ideate Explorer results window, double-click a grid instance to open a view where that instance can be seen and modified accordingly.

Select Doors that are in Rated Walls

An important part of quality control is to confirm that wall and door ratings meet code requirements.  Use Ideate Query to select doors that are in rated walls.

  1. Start on the Explore tab and set the Display to Entire Project.
  2. Set the Filter to <Model> and then select all Doors.
  3. Next, select the Ideate Query button.
  4. If more than one category is displayed be sure to only select Doors.
  5. Type "fire" or "rating" in the Search box.
  6. Use Ctrl+select to pick these two properties:  Door: Fire Rating and Wall Type: Fire Rating.
  7. Use the results to refine your selection set by checking only the boxes next to doors with walls that are rated.
